“The revolution is not an apple that falls when it is ripe. You have to make it fall.”
—Che Guevara

Well, it looks like the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. Che Guevara’s granddaughter, Lydia Guevara, is following in her revolutionary granddad’s footsteps by calling for a “vegetarian revolution.”

“PETA’s fight for animals was one of the reasons why I went vegetarian,” Lydia told the Spanish news agency Efe. “Moreover, this lifestyle has become a true revolution that is attracting more people and is an alternative that is healthier for the planet and for humankind.”

The ad was shot in New York this week by top celebrity and fashion photographer Gavin Bond—look for it this fall.- The PETA Files

According to Associated Press, the ad is PETA’s first campaign promoting vegetarianism in South America and is expected to launch October in Argentina, the birthplace of Che Guevara and the largest per capita beef consumer in the world.

Associated Press reports that other celebrities who have promoted vegetarianism for PETA include Paul McCartney, Forest Whittaker and Alicia Silverstone.

Lydia’s grandfather, Che Guevara is a legendary freedom fighter (or a notorious terrorist, depending on who’s history book you’re reading), who abandoned his profession as a doctor to fight along side Fidel Castro, in 1956 for Cuban independence and ” the emancipation of the poor of the earth“.

Since his execution in Bolivia in 1967, Che Guevara has become an international icon for revolution and dramatic change.
