Male Music Fashion Icons

Fashion icons aren’t just female, everybody uses fashion as a way to get noticed.
For the last I don’t know how many years, men have been making their way up the style ladder with their own signature looks that set them apart from the crowd. We look at female stars and are so used to their signature pieces that we almost always expect them to be wearing their one of a kind item at all times. Gwen Stefani always has bleach blond hair with red lips and Megan Fox is always seen with a cool pair of aviators.
As for the boys, take a look back at Steven Tyler.
He’s been seen in white cowboy hats, leather pants, and he has even dipped his finger tips in black nail polish. When is Ozzy Osbourne not seen in black? Even Brad Pitt has begun a hat phase. It’s madness! More and more men are catching up to the ladies and are even gaining more fashion attention than ever before. The new generation of the male fashion icon is upon us and boy oh boy are they hot!
Justin Timberlake is no stranger to music or to the fashion scene. Since his days as front man of N’SYNC, Timberlake has taken every initiative to make sure his records and style are at number 1. Justin has often pulled his outfits together with fedoras and newsboy caps.
You don’t see Timberlake walking around with his pants down to his knees do you?
That’s because he knows how to wear a belt around his waist. Also, his preppy style has gotten better and better over the years. He wears sweater vests with ties, loose fitted jeans with sneakers, and casual graphic tees. Justin Timberlake brought sexy back a long time ago.
Back when I wrote about men wearing vests, I spoke about Pete Wentz.
Wentz is the bassist for popular band Fall Out Boy and is married to the younger of the Simpson sisters, Ashlee. A fan of wearing eye liner and tight pants, Pete has transformed himself from soccer playing problem child from Illinois to rock star rebel with just a few strums on a bass. Known for having a shaggy hair style, Wentz’s fashion sense is anything but normal. His pearly whites and rock start tattoos add to his eclectic style of his assortment of colorful hoodies, fedoras, skinny jeans, ray bans, and scarves. He’s the typical teeny bopper heartthrob of today’s hip emo music scene.
Killer’s cutey Brandon Flowers captures the essence of Area 51 with Vegas showgirl style.
The Vegas native has exceptional style that has gotten better over the years. When song “Somebody Told Me” came out in 2004, he had an awful flat shag of a do. But since his overnight success bounced him from icky to hot, he’s opted for a sleeker hair cut, one that’s out of his face. And he’ll occasionally grow a mature Johnny Depp like mustache. He may wear a lot of black but Brandon spices it up with ties and handmade bows. His style is down to earth but funky at the same time. He wears what looks like a tight burgundy leather spacesuit in his newest video. You can tell he’s a fashion icon because he likes to play around with pieces like his glitzy gold jacket or the black and gold feathered blazer he’s been wearing a lot lately. He’s always pulled together whether he’s in a suit and tie or in a denim jacket and jeans. Brandon Flowers is my fashion crush.
Personal style is important when it comes to being an entertainer. Many people look up to your lyrics and style choices. Just like the ladies of the world, guys need to be represented too. While Timberlake is known for his smooth suits, Wentz is remembered best for his dark makeup and wide smile, and Flowers is expected to wear frocks of feathers and sing about spacemen. I think Justin, Pete, and Brandon show three very different but important types of style icons from preppy, rock, and glamour. It’s nice to know that boys who can sing can dress too.
