Diamond dealers DeBeers Botswana have their hopes riding on none other then Kim Kardashian.

While traveling through Africa with New Orleans Saint’s Running Back Reggie Bush as reps for Russell Simmons’ Diamond Empowerment Fund (DEF), Kim Kardashian will try to do her part to help re-invigorate diamond sales from Botswana to the U.S, which have fallen 68 percent from last quarter.

Kardashian is not the first startlet to take up the De Beers Botswana cause.

In 2002, supermodel Iman signed a $1 million-dollar-a-year contract with De Beers to promote Botswana diamonds.

After two yeas as De Beers’ “style icon” the Somalia-born supermodel resigned in mid-2004 over a controversy regarding the displacement of 2,500 bushmen. According to reports from London-based Survival International, the bushmen were evicted from their homeland after a diamond discovery near the Kalahari Game Reserve in the 1980s – Jewelers Circular Keystone.

Also on the African Tour are Kim’s sister Khloe, former Denver Broncos Ray Crockett and DEF Executive Director Ellen Haddigan.

DEF  is a non-profit international organization that raises money to support education for the poor in diamond producing African nations.

DEF is already providing funds for CIDA (Community and Individual Development Association) City Campus, a South African school that gives scholarhips to students who could not otherwise go to school.

You can stay up on the Kardashian’s African Adventures (I know what you’re thinking…stop it.) by following Kim’s twitter account.

Keep up the good work Kim!
