In the U.S, “plus sizes” begin with size 14. Even though the plus size market is bigger then the average clothes buying adult market share, it is surprisingly underserved.

Yet lately, the fashion industry has been finally giving plus size models their just dues!

It began with some designers using taller models to show plus sized clothes and evolved to include “full figured” models with larger breasts, hips, waists and thighs.

Here are 3 tips to help you break into the world of plus sized Modeling…

1. How Can You Become A Plus Sized Model?…Dare To Dream!
There are many beautiful women out there, who don’t fit the typical thin body types carried by most models.

Of course a would be model of any body type should have beautiful skin, healthy hair, and flawless teeth. Also, an infectious, genuine smile is a must and any modeling candidate must know how to play well to the camera.

With those assets a model can find work for specialty clothing lines, t.v commercials or maybe even calendar spots.

2. Prepare Professional Presentation!
Yes there are modeling agencies that specialize in servicing plus size garment makers. To catch their attention, having a professional modeling portfolio and head-shot is a necessity!

For better or for worse, modeling agencies are often the only way to reach the top clothing lines and fashion professionals producing runway shows and making a poor impression on them can hurt your career.

Keep in mind that auditioning for film/video casting calls is another way to break into the plus size modeling!

Offered by commercial, motion picture, television and music video producers, these are often attended and/or conducted by fashion insiders. Besides the exposure gained if you make the cut can be priceless.

3. Don’t Wait To Be “Discovered”…Send “Snapshots”!

Many models have kickstarted their careers by sending their photos to magazines or even e-zines!

Of course there are “no guarantees”…but “nothing ventured nothing gained”.

You may stand a better chance with smaller, up and coming publishers than the major magazines. Always do research and know who owns the magazine or e-zine that you are sending your photos to.
