Extreme Music Millionaires: Insane Clown Posse
Posted by Jay

Forget what you heard!
Insane Clown Posse Makes Far More Money Then YOUR Favorite Band - Flisted
For over 15 years Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope have been building a music and branding empire that today reigns supreme over a chaotic music industry and crumbling Michigan economy.
From hustling music, comic books, DVDs, Internet radio shows, feature films, action figures and Wrestling Matches the Insane Clown Posse is raking in up to $10 million dollars a year!
Started in the early 90′, the Insane Clown Posse burst on the national scene catching flack from all directions. They were hated on by rappers and rockers; conservatives and liberals.
But they stuck to their guns and built up their own grassroots fanbase as opposed to catering to so called critic’s and taste-makers whose opinions now don’t mean fish.
“We weren’t trying to be brilliant businessmen. We were just trying to come up with things that were cool. Because the first thing to understand about Insane Clown Posse is that we’re fans of the band ourselves. We can step out of it and look at it that way. We’re just always thinking of ways for Juggalos [a.k.a Insane Clown Posse fans] to have fun.” - Violent J
And Insane Clown Posse fans are insane about the group.
They lap up ICP t-shirts, comic books and merchandise…even mobbing concerts wearing Insane Clown Posse make-up and clown gear!
Back in 1994, Jeff Fenster, Vice President of Jive Records, knew he was on to something when he went to check out the then local band’s concert and was mobbed by teenagers offering him $100 for the backstage pass around his neck.
As crazy as their on-stage persona’s may be…there’s nothing crazy about the structure and discipline of their business organization…except the profits.
Must groups talk about being independent
But who else runs their own in-house embroidery firm that stitches together Insane Clown Posse apparel?
From a Farmington Hills, Michigan 4,500-square-foot warehouse, the group runs its own manufacturing and distribution operations, with a 30 person full-time staff, who services merchandise to retailers like Spencer’s, Hot Topic and Insane Clown Posse’s e-commerce web sites.
“Most acts farm out merch duties to specialty firms, who take a cut of revenue. Keeping it in-house likely saves ICP up to 20%” - Bill Blackwell, Merchandise Expert.
And regardless of the doubt and uncertainty for the music business at large…the Insane Clown Posse’s future looks quite bright!
With a 64 city concert tour, a January feature film release (”Big Money Rustlas”) and “Bang Pow Boom,” the group’s latest music release debuting at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 last month, the Insane Clown Posse will continue to laugh in their critic’s faces….long, loud and last…to the bank!
