Natalie Portman In Sneakers

Natalie Portman In Sneakers

With winter almost here, I keep seeing young girls wearing long colorful coats from plum to white with scarves, knit beanies, and high heeled knee high boots.

An adoring look indeed, it’s not me.

Year after year, I fall into the boot trend but once I actually get them home and stand in front of my mirror 4 inches taller, I can see my sneakers in the corner staring at me sadly. I don’t see myself like Anne Hathaway’s character in the Devil Wears Prada running around in 4½ inch heeled knee high boots and pin straight hair tucked into a Marc Jacobs beanie. I like my crazy curls that have a mind of their own and the converse sneakers that I worship get me to where I have to be just fine.

Every single one of my friends lives in flip flops, but I always felt that sneakers are not only safer but more comfortable. When I was in Disney World this past June, I brought one pair of flip flops and they were my Fit Flops from Bath and Body Works, the ones that tone your muscles with every step you take. But though I brought muscle toning thongs, I still chose to slip into my sneakers.

Sneakers are usually seen as sporty and just for athletes, but when you are a busy college student or a mother chasing a toddler, sneakers are your best friend, not high heeled things. You don’t have to be Serena Williams to wear them.

Every girl should own a pair of sneakers. I always see Reese Witherspoon in her slip-on Converse, Lindsey Lohan has a pair of gold and black high top Nikes, the Olsen Twins has been spotted wearing green converse lace ups, and Claire Danes has been photographed running errands around NYC in a pair from New Balance.

Sneakers are for every type of girl, I don’t care what people say. Between Puma, Sketcher’s, Converse, and Danskin for Wal-Mart, I can’t decide what brand is my favorite. They are all completely different brands but they offer the same benefits, comfort and style for cheap.

Puma is a brand that I have never owned but I hear so much about. The pair I have always liked the most are the Repli Cat II Shoe for $75 in black and white. They are probably the chicest sneaker around. They may be a basic black and white but there’s nothing dull about them one bit. Sleek and fly, they are definitely for the girl who wants to make a statement.

Victoria’s Secret has the Lace Up Sneaker from Sketcher’s for $60 in white and blue or gray and pink. Both options are very trendy and look like they were made for casual walking. VS also has the Shape-up’s by Sketcher’s that are just like the Fit Flop’s but in sneaker form and they are a little pricey at $110 but just think of all the benefits you will reap from them… they reduce cellulite, tone thighs, and tone your butt, it’s a win, win, win situation.

Delia’s has the Converse Ox Sneaker for $46 in 33 different colors from raspberry, black, yellow, teal, melon, purple, cranberry, and many more. This is my favorite sneaker because it comes in so many different colors so it’s always fun for me to buy a new pair because it’s a new color. I’d like to add the teal or yellow to my already existing family of my red and black pairs. Converse is seen as a rocker type of sneaker due to the rock star celebrities who wear them from Good Charlotte and Linkin Park. But a lot of high profile celebs like Natalie Portman, Jen Aniston, Madonna, Gisele Bundchen, and Liv Tyler sport them too. To me, it seems like Converse are the universal sneaker.

Since Wal-Mart has been upgrading its clothing lines with collections by Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift, the mega store has also added Danskin’s collection Danskin Now to its shoe department. For $15 and under you can pick up a pair in all sorts of colors from pink and silver, blue and yellow, and black and white. And with the Danskin name, you know they are going to be comfortable.

Sneakers aren’t just for gym class anymore, they are making quite the comeback you know. Whether you already own a pair or want to invest in a new pair, it doesn’t matter what kind of pick up. From the Sketcher’s fitness pair to Converse’s celebrity following, there is a pair out there for everyone, you just have to find the pair that defines you… and that’s comfortable of course.
